4th Grade Activities:
(1) Write a cinquain poem (or other teacher format) about the stevedores' role in steam boating.
(2) Fill out a bill of sale for goods you are shipping by steamboat
from Virginia to Baltimore. Total your bill. Write the
check you will receive for your goods. Bill

(3) Write a newspaper article describing the difficulty the stevedores' experienced herding the animals on the steamboat. Add an eye catching title
(4) Label the parts of the steam engine. Steam Engine Form
(5) Complete the map by following the directions you are provided. Feel free to add cities, towns, rivers and creeks. Map Form.
(6) Research and write a paragraph (your choice): James Watts, Industrial Revolution, The Steam Engine
(7) Create a postcard cover drawing of Pratt/:Light Street in Baltimore and write a short message to your family describing the area.
(8) Natural Resources, Human Resources, Capital Resources. Under these three headings complete a poster or chart of everything you can think of that applies to the steamboat. (Example: Natural Resource: water, coal - Human Resource: captain, passenger - Capital Resource: tools, chairs)
(9) Create a job description for the following crew members: Captain, Stevedore, Engineer, Chambermaid, Navigator
(10) Create a scaled diagram that shows the interior of the James Adams Floating Theatre. Be sure to include: stage area, seating area, entrance area, back stage area, performer's quarters, storage area. Be prepared to explain your diagram.
(11) Identify the items shown in this form. Then write a short paragraph about each. Finally identify the medium. Picture Detective Form
