Got into door to door sales in Kilmarnock, Va. Did well until depression. Then took a job as a night watchman at the fish factory. Lived on the Gunther farm half way between Kilmarnock and Irvington. Walked to school. Went to Kilmarnock High School. When road was paved they could roller skate to school. After school would walk down to Davis's store near Christ Church and buy food for mother. |

Built house in 1952 on what was called Shanty Point - got its name because Arthur's (Jean's husband) father had fishing business and the black people that worked for him lived on the point in "shanties". Ate their meals at the home place. Authers father died when he was 12. Boys (Auther, John, JP) all carried on with the fishing business working very hard. |
