3/00 F Describes place of birth "Lake" up on the Coan River. Talks about the house he was born in that was built in the late 1700s. Slater Cowart Johns grandfather fought in the civil war- helpfed Johns father in buying property and building steamboat wharf

 5/30  SW  Cowarts Steamboat wharf built in 1908 by father and grandfather Andrew Headly. Describes wharf - cannery, oyster house still there today. Father's name was William John Cowart. John got married in 1917.

 7/25  W  Talks about the canning and steamboat wharf business - Describes the formation of the Green Tomatoe Association - describes canning process at one tme 25 or 30 canneries in the area - 200 people were employed at father's cannery - horses and wagons used to bring tomatoes to cannery. 1932 grandfather died and cannery was closed.
