Wilder's Grant is located just
off of Carter's Creek on Bridge Cove on 6.1 acres in the heart
of Irvington Virginia's historic district. A town built upon the
success of the steamboat era that extended from the mid 1800s
into the early 1900s, Irvington has been able to retain much of
the charm and flavor of that romantic period.
The oldest remaining house in Irvington, Wilder's Grant was built in 1740 by George and deeded to Michael Wilder in 1792. The oldest portion of the house consists of the two front rooms and second story rooms. Over the years the house has undergone numerous changes yet has kept its original style and feeling. A back portion was added in the 1900s and more recently the house was moved closer to the water. In doing so a basement was added. More recently a deck and library & work space addition were added creating a house now with 2500 square feet of living space.
From the Wilder's Grant dock you will have the opportunity to explore the many inlets and coves on Carter's Creek not to mention the excitement of cruising the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay.
